Mt. Errigal – The highest peak of the Derryveagh mountains at 751 meters is located near Gweedore in County Donegal.

We started our 3-hour climb from the parking lot on the R251 road connecting Gweedore and Letterkeny. Initially, the route leads through strong wet meadows with this during the rain is really crossing the mud often reaching the knees

After this episode, the actual climb to the summit begins from which a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains and Donegal county stretches and a narrow path leads to the second yet slightly lower peak just a few dozen meters away.

You do not need any specialized equipment for the climbing itself, but as in the mountains caution and appropriate footwear for mountain trips are recommended, especially that loose stones are very often slipping and it is not difficult here to twist your leg.

No wonder the summit has been recognized as one of the most characteristic mountains in Ireland, because it protrudes from the landscape like a volcano, which shines with its pinkish shade in the sun.

This mountain definitely has to be in your “must do”!
