Gap of Dunloe (Dun Loicha) – is one of the most beautiful parts of County Kerry and even the whole of Ireland, it is a several-kilometer long pass between MacGillycuddy Reeks and Purple Mountains.

The Dunloe Pass was created during the ice age that began about 2 million years ago, when the glaciers began to retreat around 10,000 years BC they created this amazing pass and gave the mountains their ragged appearance.

The pass begins at Kate Kearney’s Cottage, which is near the picturesque wish bridge, and a long, narrow and winding road leads to Black Valley passing along the way five lakes: Coosaun Lough, Black Lake, Cushnavally Lake, Auger Lake and Black Lough, and they are all connected by the Loe River.

During the ride, the views will change and it’s hard to choose your favorite section of the route, because every moment we will see something new and to really appreciate the whole Gap of Dunloe – you have to personally choose and drive through or even part of it!
