Ballycotton – is a small seaside town in County Cork, located about 40 km east of Cork city. A fishing village known for the making of the movie, Holy Savage in 1995, In which stars such as Marlon Brando, Johnny Depp and Debra Winger were cast in,sadly the film was never completed because of bankruptcy.

At a distance of about 2 km from the village is a lighthouse (one of only two black lighthouses in Ireland). The lighthouse was electrified on January 15, 1975, and fully automated on March 28, 1992.
In 2014, after almost 100 years, an antique Mary Stanford rescue boat was transported to Ballycotton, this 30-ton unit was previously saved from sinking, set on a pedestal towering over the picturesque Ballycotton bay as the first and only boat from RNLI to be awarded the gold medal for courage.

Ballycotton Cliff Walk:

Starts from the village of Ballycotton to Ballyandreen,it’s a picturesque place for walks (completely flat), where on one hand you are surrounded by meadows and on the other  side is the cliffs and the ocean.

In its entirety it is about 8 km (not suitable for bicycles or prams).
